Visala Hohlbein is a very enthusiastic herbalist who feels a strong connection to nature and loves to teach others to feel the same.
Throughout her life, Visala has studied and learned about not only plants native to the Pacific Northwest, but also about herbs and house plants. Most of her herbalism background comes from studying with Paul Beyerl at his school The Hermit’s Grove.
Visala holds teaching degrees from Western Washington University and the University of Washington. She has been teaching for Seattle Public Schools for 30 years.

How do you present material to students?
I combine lecture and class discussion with hands-on experiences with herbs.
How you interact and work with students?
When teaching, I like to get to know my students and try to have the class develop and work organically, following the interests of those enrolled.
What kind of classroom dynamic do you promote?
I promote a very interactive classroom dynamic.
