Welcome to Seattle Through Conversation - Continuing Education at Seattle Central College

Are you a new Seattle resident and want to learn how to navigate the city well?

Or someone learning English who lives in the Seattle area?

In this fun interactive course, improve your conversational English while gaining an understanding of the rich cultural diversity in Seattle.

We will build vocabulary while discussing different cultural topics relevant to Seattle.

Learn about Seattle culture and sub-cultures, from icons, to traditions and holidays.

Gain an understanding about Seattle neighborhoods, cultural sites, ethnic groups, shopping, dining and much more.

Enjoy guest speakers and gain ideas about what to do, see and experience to get the most out of your time in Seattle.

Develop an appreciation for the abundant cultural opportunities in the Seattle area and learn to use useful American English expressions.

This class is based in the classroom in the vibrant Capitol Hill neighborhood, and we will take a short field trip during one class session.

Learning Outcomes

When this class is complete, you will have more knowledge, familiarity and ability in:

  • conversational skills and comprehension in English language
  • using common phrases and vocabulary
  • different cultural topics of Seattle
  • identifying words that have more than one meaning
  • the beautiful diversity of Seattle

Who Should Take This Class?

Prerequisites: Minimum of 3 quarters of ESL or equivalent.

This class is designed for students who want to improve pronunciation, reduce their accent in English, and speak like native American English speakers.
