Within the large and growing healthcare industry, medical assistants play a key
role in keeping a healthcare facility running smoothly and work in healthcare facilities such as physicians’ offices, hospitals, and clinics.

They perform general patient care and handle routine administrative responsibilities that frequently include the following:

• Obtaining patient vital signs
• Taking measurements
• Administering oral and parenteral medications
• Performing wound care
• Assisting during procedures
• Labeling and processing specimens
• Preparing for, performing, and monitoring EKG
• Managing medical records
• Processing health insurance

  • Additional Notes: The Career Step Medical Assistant with Clinical Externship training program is 510 completion hours. Since the program is completely self-paced and the online training format allows you the flexibility to study as much or as little as your schedule allows, the time it takes you to complete the course will vary from other students. The course is designed to be completed in 4 months of full-time study, and you receive an initial 12-month period of enrollment to provide you the flexibility to study part-time on a pace and at a schedule that works for you.Course extensions are available once you are 3 months within your course expiration date should you feel you need more time to complete the program.
